BNZ customers are in for some good news with the Green Home loan top-ups. BNZ home loan customers can now get a top-up for eligible upgrades to make their homes more energy efficient and warmer.
If you’re thinking of moving your home loan to BNZ, you can apply for a home loan and Green Home loan top-up together. This loan top-up (capped at $80,000 for the 3 year fixed period) can be used for energy efficient upgrades such as renewable energy systems, heating and insulation and water tanks. You can even reduce your carbon emissions with certain electric transport upgrading options.
Make your home healthier and warmer with the following eligible home upgrades,
- Solar panels, batteries, and inverters
- Heat Pumps
- Water heating
- Ceiling, wall or underfloor insulation
- Window glazing
- Ventilation
- Rainwater tanks (including related parts)

Who would be eligible for this offer?
You must be an existing BNZ Classic Home Loan customer, or move your home loan to BNZ and then apply for a BNZ home loan and BNZ Green Home loan top-up together. Minimum top up amount of $5000 applies.
Is there a cap on the loan top-up amount?
Yes, the amount you can borrow will be capped at $80,000 at 1% per annum for the initial 3 year fixed term period.
What happens after the 3 year fixed term period?
After the initial 3 year period, the loan can be re-fixed, or BNZ’s floating home loan interest rate will apply.
Is there a top-up fee to be paid when using this offer?
An establishment fee of up to $150 for new customers may apply. For existing customers, a top-up fee of $100 may apply. Fees may be different for non-personal lending. Residential Owner Occupied and Residential Investor Rate applies.
How and when to apply for a loan top-up?
If you’re an existing BNZ home loan customer, you can apply for a BNZ Green Home Loan top-up through Internet Banking or the BNZ app. New customers can apply for the home loan and BNZ Green Home Loan top-up together.
